Young adults struggling to get their first employment might benefit from a free program that teaches skills while also paying them.
The program is for 16 to 24-year-olds who do not work full-time or attend school full-time.
The Work and Learn program is organized by the Association for the Advancement of Mexican Americans.
Classes begin on Monday, March 25, however if you enroll for the program, they will keep your application on file for the following set of classes.
The curriculum lasts six weeks and includes approximately 20 hours of classroom time per week.
Students study job-related skills such as graphic design, web development, and digital literacy.
At the same time, students gain the skills required to fill out applications and find work.
“Our Work and Learn Center gets them ready for the workforce. It is small classes, but we work on trying to build those kinds of skills,” Mary Ann Garcia with AAMA Community Engagement said.
Students can earn up to $900 during the six-week program. To learn more, visit the AAMA Work and Learn Center website.
