Applications Open for $2,500 Renewable Iowa Farm Bureau scholarship

High school students who want to major or minor in agriculture after graduating in 2024 are urged to apply for the Iowa Farm Bureau Federation’s $2,500 prize. This prize, which was awarded to 27 students, is renewable for four years and is worth up to $10,000.

“The future of agriculture hinges on the passion and ingenuity of the next generation,” says Iowa Farm Bureau President Brent Johnson. “As we look forward, it’s essential we cultivate young leaders who not only understand the rich heritage of farming but are also equipped to navigate the complexities of a global food system. That’s why Farm Bureau has committed over half a million dollars in scholarships each year to nurture future leaders and ensure the legacy of Iowa’s agricultural excellence.”

Applicants must be affiliated with an active Iowa Farm Bureau membership, have a minimum 2.5 GPA, and be accepted into an accredited higher education institution, including community colleges and technical institutions.

Students must apply online by Jan. 31, 2024, at iowafarmbureau.com/scholarships. A key aspect of the application includes an essay detailing the student’s extracurricular activities, community service, their commitment to agriculture and two character reference letters.

This application qualifies students for both county-level scholarships and the state award, if available. Each of the state’s 100 county Farm Bureaus will choose one kid from their area to be nominated for the $2,500 state award. Three students from each of Iowa Farm Bureau’s nine districts will be chosen as scholarship recipients from this pool.

The program also includes the Daniel Johnson Memorial Scholarship and the Edward W. & Isabelle M. Klodt Memorial Scholarships, each of which awards $500 to deserving students.
