APPLY: NWRA Women’s Council is Offering Scholarships

The 2023–2024 Scholarship Program has been launched by the NWRA Women’s Council, an organization that supports women in the trash and recycling industry who work for its member companies and their dependents.

The NWRA Women’s Council has awarded more than $410,000 in scholarships since 2007.

“The waste and recycling sector plays a crucial role in shaping a sustainable future for our planet,” says Tammy Holtzman, district manager at Waste Connections of Canada and chair of the NWRA Women’s Council scholarship committee. “It is essential to empower and encourage students to actively participate in this dynamic field.

“The scholarship not only provides financial assistance but also fosters a community and makes meaningful contributions to industry stewardship.”

The scholarship program will take applications until April 1, 2024, and the winners will be revealed prior to WasteExpo. According to NWRA, scholarship funds will help with the cost of books, tuition, and other educational expenditures.

Last year, NWRA Women’s Council awarded $50,000 to 10 scholarship recipients. The recipients represented Rumpke Waste & Recycling, Colerain, Township; Waste Connections, The Woodlands, Texas; Casella Waste Systems, Rutland, Vermont; Waste Connections of Canada, Vaughan, Canada; and WM, Houston.

More information regarding eligibility criteria and application details can be found on the NWRA Women’s Council website.
