The Batesville Community Education Foundation (BCEF) is now accepting applications for four scholarships that benefit Batesville High School (BHS) graduates, according to BCEF executive director Anne Wilson. The nonprofit partner will award $31,500 to the Batesville Community School Corporation (BCSC).
The Ron Raver Memorial Scholarship Fund will give one $1,000 scholarship in 2024. Applicants must be BHS graduates in the top 15 percent of their class who have competed in basketball, cross country, or track. Furthermore, applicants must demonstrate that they possess the values and attributes that Coach Raver exhibited: active participation in school, church, and community, as well as proven dedication and perseverance.
One graduate will receive the $2500 Bobbie Brandes Memorial Scholarship. BHS graduates in the top 15% of their class are eligible for the Brandes Scholarship. Applicants who fit any of the following criteria will be given special consideration: they must be first-generation college students, have proven leadership in school organizations or sports teams, be pursuing a career in education, or have demonstrated civic and community involvement.
In addition to the Raver and Brandes scholarships, BCEF will again grant the Mary C. Horstman Scholarship. As in prior years, the Horstman award is open to any BHS graduate seeking higher study, including trade school. Horstman applicants with a connection to agriculture or pursuing a trade will be given special consideration, but they are not guaranteed selection. Three $1000 scholarships will be offered.
“The last of our four scholarships, our largest, is the James E. Fritsch Memorial Scholarship, and it will remain at five $5,000 recipients this year,” Wilson noted. “We are committed to helping students reduce college costs and will continue to award substantial scholarships from that fund as long as our investments allow us that opportunity.”
The Fritsch scholarship requires applicants to be in the top 15% of the BHS Class of 2024.
The BCEF common application, instructions, and details regarding all of the scholarships may be found on the organization’s website at http://batesvilleeducationfoundation.org/programs/scholarships/. Scholarship applications are due to the foundation no later than 4:00 PM on March 1. Questions may be directed to Wilson at awilson@batesville.k12.in.us.
