Brock’s younger brother, Chubba Purdy, revealed on social media that, only a few days after leaving Nebraska and accessing the transfer site, he had earned a scholarship offer from Cal.
The 22-year-old Purdy claimed he has also received offers from TCU, which is led by former California coach Sonny Dykes, and North Texas. He didn’t say when he would make his choice.
Three quarterbacks are currently in the Bears’ system, with redshirt freshman Fernando Mendoza serving as the current starter. But Justin Wilcox, the head coach of Cal, has made it known that he would like to add another experienced quarterback to the quarterback room.
Purdy would join two other scholarship signal-callers in Berkeley if he choose to play close to his brother in the Bay Area: prep signee EJ Caminong, a standout from Garfield High near Seattle, and North Texas transfer Chandler Rogers.
Purdy will still be eligible for two seasons after attending Florida State and Nebraska for two seasons each, regardless of where he ends up playing.
Purdy played in 12 games for Nebraska, four of which he started, and the Cornhuskers never prevailed. Purdy, a quarterback with two offensive touchdowns and six interceptions, completed passes for 529 yards. In addition, Purdy rushed for three touchdowns and 315 yards.
