Dion T. Harry, a doctoral student in the NC College of Education’s Ph.D. in Educational Leadership, Policy, and Human Development with a focus on higher education opportunity, equity, and justice, has been awarded the 2023 Melvin C. Terrell Scholarship.
The Dr. Melvin C. Terrell (MCT) Educational Foundation, Inc. awards this scholarship annually to graduate students seeking master’s or doctoral degrees in student affairs or higher education administration.
Harry received recognition for his research, which focuses on advocating for and amplifying the experiences and well-being of marginalized communities in education, with a particular emphasis on Black queer and trans students and educators, marginalized communities in STEM, and students at community and technical colleges.
“To be selected as an MCT Foundation scholarship recipient further affirms my desire to engage in research that can enhance the lives and well-being of Black queer and trans college students at our institutions,” Harry said. “This is powerful and meaningful work, and I’m beyond honored to have my work supported by the MTC Foundation as I continue this journey.”
The Dr. Melvin C. Terrell Educational Foundation, Inc. supports student affairs professionals and was established to guarantee that minority students have access to and succeed in the field.
