Durham Public Schools announced on Wednesday that a Hillside High School student is a semi-finalist for the National Honor Society scholarship.
Olivia Henson, a senior, is the current president of Hillside’s student council.
“Olivia is extremely deserving of the scholarship because she has matured throughout the years. She has not let the pandemic’s hardships deter her academic pursuits or commitment to community involvement. She deserves credit for being the first student to obtain this award from Hillside High School in the last 12 years. Olivia represents “on purpose, with purpose,” according to Jahara Davis, her Hillside High School NHS Advisor.
Henson will earn $3,200 to cover her undergraduate expenses. She is the first Hillside student to get the prize.
Henson plans to pursue computer design at North Carolina State University in the fall.
