Eman Schools Student Named in U.S. Presidential Scholars Program

Danya Rimawi, a graduating senior at Eman Schools in Fishers, has been designated one of over 5,000 candidates for the 2024 US Presidential Scholars Program. The applicants were chosen from among almost 3.6 million kids scheduled to graduate from high schools in the United States by 2024.

Inclusion in the United States Presidential Scholars Program is one of the greatest honors bestowed on graduating high school seniors. Scholars are chosen based on their outstanding academic and creative achievements, leadership abilities, strong character, and participation in community and school activities.

The United States Presidential Scholars Program was founded in 1964 by President’s Executive Order to celebrate some of the country’s most remarkable graduating seniors for their achievements in a variety of areas, including academic success, leadership, and service to school and community.

The program was expanded in 1979 to award students with outstanding scholarship and talent in the visual, creative, and performing arts. In 2015, the program was expanded once more to award students that excel in career and technical sectors. Every year, up to 161 U.S. Presidential Scholars are chosen from the senior class, reflecting academic distinction and the promise of greatness in America’s young.

In early April, a renowned team of educators will assess the applications and choose roughly 600 semifinalists. The finalists will be chosen by the Commission on Presidential Scholars, a panel of up to 32 distinguished persons nominated by the President, and the Scholars will be announced in May by the United States Department of Education.

Each June, the National Recognition Program honors US Presidential Scholars for their accomplishments. The Scholars are presented with the Presidential Scholars Medallion to acknowledge their achievements.
