The Greater Jefferson County Foundation is proud to administer the Mark Shafer Visual Arts Scholarship for the 2024 scholarship season. This will be a four-year renewable scholarship of $1,000 per year for an FHS graduating senior student majoring in Visual Arts, such as painting, sculpture, photography, architecture, or Art Education.
Susan Shafer, the widow of Mark Shafer, will present the first Mark Shafer Visual Arts scholarship at FHS’s annual Award Night Presentation on May 1, 2024, at Dan Breen Gymnasium.
Mark Shafer has been a dedicated educator in the Fairfield Community School District since 1974, teaching for more than 30 years. In addition to being the carefree, humorous art teacher, he was a founding member of the Fairfield Art Association, where he served as Vice President, Art Class Instructor, Art Camp Director, and moderator of displays featuring guest artists.
He participated in numerous Community Service Art Projects while attending FHS. Mark also got the well-deserved Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year Award in 2006 and the FHS Wall of Honour in 2016.
The Mark Shafer Scholarship Application will be available via the FHS Counselors’ Office. For further information, contact the Greater Jefferson County Foundation at 641-472-0758 or gjcf0758@windstream.net.
