Louisiana University Student Killed on Holiday Trip Home to Washington D.C.

While spending the holidays at home, an 18-year-old LSU student was shot and died in northwest Washington, D.C.

The Metropolitan Police Department in Washington, D.C. sent a news release stating that Ashlei Hinds, a native of Clinton, Maryland, was shot inside a hotel room on Monday, January 1 at 1:30 a.m. She passed away right there.

Police reported that 18-year-old Jelani Cousin was taken into custody on Tuesday, January 2, and charged with second-degree murder in relation to the fatal shooting.

Ashlei’s family stated that she was pursuing her goals of becoming a sports agent while attending LSU to study sports administration.

Her relatives have disclosed that she was killed approximately one hour into the new year while celebrating New Year’s Eve with friends.
