An eastern North Carolina high school student is contemplating his choices after receiving $800,000 in scholarship offers.

Ahmad Zayyad, a senior at North Lenoir High School, has gotten many scholarship offers from institutions such as John Hopkins University, UNC, Duke, Wake Forest University, and North Carolina State.

According to Lenoir County school authorities, Zayyad is the president of North Lenoir’s National Honor Society and HOSA, a club that educates students for careers in healthcare. He is co-president of the school’s Science Olympiad Club and a co-founder of Project Please Stay, which raises awareness about mental health issues. Zayyad has also served as a class representative in the Student Government Association throughout high school. Zayyad is a member of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society.

Zayyad said he will be touring schools soon.

“I’m keeping my options open,” Ahmad Zayyad explained. “I’ll do the excursions soon. I’d like to look at places where I feel like I belong. “That is something that will happen soon.”

According to school authorities, he has always wanted to work in medicine and would want to stay in North Carolina, but he is considering all choices.

“I’ve been thinking about medicine for a long time now. “I’m committed to doing it,” Ahmad stated.

Zayyad, a dual-enrollment student at Lenoir Community College, is anticipated to earn an associate of science degree in addition to his high school graduation.
