A 60-year-old Ohio teacher required brain surgery after suffering severe injuries from a vicious attack at the hands of a student.
In a classroom, the 15-year-old kid hit the instructor in the skull, resulting in “a severe brain injury requiring extensive medical treatment,” as per an incident report that The Cincinnati Enquirer—a division of USA TODAY NETWORK—obtained.
The youngster is being placed in a juvenile detention facility after being charged with the crime. Colerain Township is located just outside of Cincinnati. The teenager, who is also suspected of assaulting a classmate, is thought to have been hallucinating due to the impact of an unidentified narcotic.
Just after 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, Colerain Township police responded to the attack on the Colerain High School campus.
The teenager was discovered by police in the career center foyer of the school, with what seems to be a self-inflicted head wound. The teenager was apparently experiencing hallucinations and looked to be under the influence of an unknown narcotic, according to the officers.
Before the attack, the student had started acting “distraught,” and according to officials, he had hurt another 15-year-old pupil by grabbing him and pinching his neck.
The instructor was taken by paramedics to a nearby hospital, where, according to the Hamilton County Prosecutor’s Office, she had to have a significant operation to remove her skull cap in order to accommodate brain swelling and stop additional harm.
Medical attention was not necessary for the squeezed student. On Monday, there was no immediate update regarding the teacher’s health.
The student attacker is being charged with felonious assault, according to a statement issued on Friday by Colerain Township and Northwest Local Schools. The attacker received medical attention at a hospital prior to being transported to the Hamilton County Juvenile Detention Center.
“Northwest Local Schools has confirmed that the incident was isolated and that there is no current threat to the school community regarding the matter,” said the statement. “The district remains resolute in their commitment to providing a safe and nurturing environment for all students and staff.”
