Study in U.S.: Applications Open for Youngstown Press Club Scholarship

Applications are being accepted for two $2,000 scholarships that the Youngstown Press Club will give out in 2024.

The recipients of the grants will be junior or senior college students studying in journalism or allied fields like public relations, marketing, broadcasting, or communications from the Mahoning or Shenango valleys.

The application deadline is April 1.

Applicants must:

  • Submit proof of a grade-point average of 3.0 or higher.
  • Be entering their junior or senior year in the 2024-25 academic year.
  • Submit at least two writing or broadcast samples.

Candidates may be enrolled in college elsewhere, but they must reside in one of the following counties: Trumbull, Mahoning, Columbiana, Mercer, or Lawrence.

Candidates should pledge to attend the Youngstown Press Club’s September 25 Hall of Fame and Awards Banquet and submit evidence of their community involvement.

The application form is available HERE.

The Frank and Pearl Gelbman Foundation, club dues, event earnings, individual and corporate sponsors’ direct gifts, and club membership fees all go into funding the scholarships.

In an effort to support journalism and other communication-related careers in the Mahoning Valley, the Youngstown Press Club was refounded in 2018.
