The four beneficiaries of the 2023 Kevin Fannon Memorial Scholarship were just announced by the Lower Loudoun Girls Softball League.
Park View High School Class of 2023 grads Itzel Chona (Radford University) and Marin Nicholson (West Virginia University) are this year’s awardees, as are Potomac Falls High School graduates Emma Meehan (University of Virginia) and Anna Vayo (James Madison University).
In 2022, the Kevin Fannon Memorial Scholarship was established in memory of Kevin Fannon, a former LLGSL coach who died in 2020. Fannon was recognized for his energy on and off the field, as well as his passion for the game.
LLGSL hopes to carry on Fannon’s legacy by financially awarding young women who demonstrate exceptional team spirit and sportsmanship.
“All of us at LLGSL are extremely proud of this year’s recipients,” LLGSL president Jodi Sweeney said. “Many of us have watched these young women grow up on our fields. We are honored to be a small part of their future success by providing some financial support as they take their next steps.”
Applicants must have played at least three seasons of LLGSL house league softball or two years of LLGSL travel softball; expect to graduate from high school the year of the award; and intend to further their education by enrolling in a college, university, or trade/vocational school within six months of the award.
Each year, applications are opened in May, with rewards presented that summer. LLGSL has been in business in eastern Loudoun County for almost 30 years.
