Eastern West Virginia Community Foundation to Award $150,000 in Scholarships in 2024

The Eastern West Virginia Community Foundation (EWVCF) is accepting scholarship applications until February 28, 2024. EWVCF scholarships are available to students graduating in 2024 from Berkeley, Jefferson, and Morgan counties who are pursuing higher education at the university, college, or community college level.

For the past 28 years, EWVCF has been dedicated to aiding students in achieving their higher education aspirations. Thanks to contributors who share this vision, the Foundation provides dozens of scholarships ranging from $500 to $6,000.

In 2024, 51 different funds will award scholarships totaling more than $150,000 to students from Berkeley, Jefferson, and Morgan counties in the Eastern Panhandle. Students can visit the Community Foundation’s website at www.EWVCF.org to learn about the different types of scholarships available and their respective requirements, as some are quite specific.

The Theodore K. Oates Nursing Scholarship is open to Berkeley County graduates who are presently studying or plan to study nursing at one of the Eastern Panhandle’s colleges, universities, or technical institutions. It is one of the few EWVCF scholarships offered to students who are currently enrolled in college.

Mr. Jacques established the Floyd and Isabel Jacques Memorial Scholarship Fund to help Musselman High School seniors who rank in the top 10% of their classes. Previous recipients of the Jacques Scholarship have attended schools and universities such as Liberty University, Harrisburg University, Shenandoah University, Waynesburg University, Shepherd University, and West Virginia University.

The Martinsburg High School Class of 1964 Fund was formed with gifts from dozens of Class of ’64 graduates. This fund grants scholarships to Martinsburg High School graduates who plan to attend a West Virginia higher education institution.

Ms. Smith’s family established the Susan Wellford Smith Scholarship Fund in her memory. This fund awards scholarships to female Jefferson County athletes who aim to pursue a four-year degree.

Ms. Crosby’s husband, family, and friends founded the Anna Jo Crosby Scholarship Fund to honor her memory. This grant is for Morgan County high school graduates pursuing a degree in biology or veterinary science.

The West Virginia Wing-Civil Air Patrol Cadet Scholarship Fund was created by the late Dennis D. Barron to provide scholarships to Civil Air Patrol cadets throughout the state. Cadets who are chosen for these scholarships must be outstanding students and proven leaders in their squadrons. The scholarships are renewable as long as the student stays a cadet in the West Virginia Wing during his or her collegiate career.

Recent college graduates planning to attend law school should apply for the J. Oakley Seibert Scholarship, which was established in his memory to assist law students who live in and intend to return to the Eastern Panhandle to practice law after graduation.

The Eastern West Virginia Community Foundation and its affiliates use an online scholarship application hosted by AwardSpring for most scholarships. That application can be found at https://ewvcf.awardspring.com. For more information, contact Scholarship Program Manager Karin Hammann Dunn at khdunn@ewvcf.org or 304-671-8167.
